Sultan Babullah
A sultan of Ternate in the sixteenth century he fought foreign colonizers especially the Portuguese and managed to expel the Portuguese from Ternate.
The power of the Ternate sultanate culminated under Sultan Babullah (1570-1584) who succeeded in driving out the Portuguese from his realm in 1575.

The Sultan's Palace
Built in 1796 and restored in semi-colonial style, the Sultan's Palace is still a family home. However there is a museum section (donation) containing a small but interesting collection of Portuguese and Dutch helmets, various swords and armour, plus memorabilia from the reigns of past sultans. Notice the genealogy of the Ternatean royal family dating back to 1257. The airy veranda offers wide views towards Halmahera. Ternate's major sight is the Sultan's palace, overlooking the sea from the foot of Gamalama. The palace is a colonial style building supposedly planned to resemble a sitting lion. Part of the royal family still lives inside, but visitors are welcome to enter the main hall, where a selection of royal memorablia such as clothing, weapons and flags can be seen. The main object of interest, the Sultan's crown is firmly locked away from peering eyes.

Sultan Babullah Tomb
Sultan Babullah was the Son of Sultan Kairun, who was infamously succeeded to force the Portuguese Colony surrendered with no terms and left the island in 1575. The tomb is located in From Hill, 10 Kms South of Ternate city centre.

Sultan Ternate' s Crown
A crown that was embellished with several kind of diamonds and continuously-growing hair, which would be cut on Moslem's Idul Adha special ceremony. This crown is to be found inside the Ternate Royalty Palace.
